Where has Consciousness Gone…?

Where has Consciousness Gone…?

The Mental World is a Sticky Business

It sucks you in. It’s like a Carnival side show that holds your undivided attention. A scary movie that keeps you glued to the screen. Monkey Mind obsesses, as outlandish thoughts keep the masses hypnotized, astounded, and limited. Chemicals course through our bodies with every emotion, playing havoc with our immune systems down to the cellular level.

What can we do to break free and find some balance in what is personally relevant to our hearts and bodies? What kind of map will get us back to nature, animals, love, health, and sanity? Lately I’ve been leaving notes for myself by my coffee mug, on the mirror, at the computer. One favorite is “Do something new every day”. This puts me in an entirely different frame of mind. It makes me pause, breathe, and be mindful of myself in this moment.

These thoughts led me to create the above painting, Sacred Valley. I started with actual maps on the canvas along with ancient text and symbols. Then to really shake things up, I recorded the doing of the painting for a YouTube video. The other ‘new’ thing was to use both acrylic paint and oil paint sticks. Really keeps me aware and in the present.

Some days I’ll make a new ‘raw’ dish for dinner (ala Mimi Kirk), and I’ve started drinking apple cider vinegar in water with honey to boost my immune system. I walk the woods when I can, just to get out to breathe the air, be with the trees, and move my body. Many ‘new’ things that I try, actually become part of my daily ritual.

So stop being so mental and find New Stuff to do in your life every day. Immerse yourself in something creative, make something, read something, change how you do things. It will bring you back to yourself again and again, as well as being the healthy way to go. And put post-its with new ideas around to get your personal adventure going each day. Always have fun & remember to Breathe in this Day of Your Life.
