Intent with Knowledge Gives Fascinating Results.
It’s a return to Monet and his Water Lillies, Cathedrals, or Haystacks. He saw how mindfulness, linked with painting techniques, created unique works of feeling, psychology, and desire. My flowers on the left are done with ‘warm’ blues, ‘warm’ yellows, and ‘warm’ reds, to create an uplifting, lighter feeling for any viewer or room. It’s the Sun shining overhead, bright and clear, on an August day. My same painting on the right is made with ‘cool’ blues, ‘cool’ yellows, and ‘cool’ reds, to manifest a calm, relaxing, end of the day twilight feel. Fascinating how this all works.
When I was in college, blues were cool and yellows were warm. Period!! In spite of studying Claude Monet and the great colorist Josef Albers, their beliefs were not applied in the hands on classroom practical studies. No one made me aware of this until now, in my online painting class with Pauline Agnew, http://www.paulineagnew.com/flower-power-ecourse/. She tackles the nitty gritty, and I’m finally getting a handle on Ultamarine Blue is a ‘warm’ blue!! My left hard wired brain can hardly wrap itself around this concept. But this is how it is in all of life.
We are taught so many things by our parents, schools, and competitive experiences, it becomes hard to change our thoughts, beliefs, and ways. Everything from how we approach money, to thoughts of our bodies, to how ‘good’ an artist we are, have deep roots to our upbringing, childhood, and view of life.
For me, it’s an opportunity to keep an open mind, to practice the different approach until my body can clearly see the old ways aren’t the best for me. Luckily my Mom taught how to manage money in different accounts, saving for what you want, and not going into dept. There still is a bit of getting the best bargain, but not to the extant of not getting what I really want out of life. She also taught life was to be enjoyed, and having money for it was peace of mind.
My body was another issue. Until I released and re-educated myself away from the meat/potato/’veggie from cans’ way of eating, I, like Mom, was always on some diet. Now I eat for body fuel, aware of food combinations, and portions. Makes all the difference. Plus exercise is daily added to the mix. And my art was about finding myself. My own Spiritual, personal expression of my beliefs. That’s coming together in a beautiful way. It’s a focus, with hands on doing, in mindfulness. Love it!!
