Doing Art is my Spiritual Practice.
When I need to get back to myself, I paint. For my own comfort and well being, I paint. Sanctuary: a place of refuge and protection, a consecrated place. My Studio is my refuge, my dedicated place for the inner journey. This last week, even when it’s an annual routine Dr.’s visit, memories can still throw me off balance. I want to get it over with. Then when he adds an unplanned shot into the mix, it’s time for me to go home, have some chicken soup, and recoup myself. My saving grace is painting. That’s when Raven Watch was born. My Raven, my guide, my protector, gets me back into balance.
A few days ago, I had witnessed the incredible conjunction of Venus rising, as the morning star, beneath the incredible crescent moon, at 4:00 am from my studio window! This would have been a high holy day in the ancient world. A time of abundance, of the flooding Nile bringing nourishment to the land, and the start of a new year. And here she is again, in all her glory, highlighting the gorgeous moon moving through her cycles. I knew there was a painting there.
It’s important to know how to bring yourself back into balance. Some exercise, some dance, some sing, some paint, but do find your special in the body activity, to remember who you really are, away from the maddening crowd.
