Art Transformation in Subtle but True Increments

Art Transformation happens as we shift our habits. When I think back to my first Art Transformation, I was coming out of teaching high school for 22 yrs. The system burned me out. First of all, there were too many state requirements, while not enough caring for what students really needed. It was time to move on. Finally I could focus on developing my Voice, my style, my mark, and heal.

At first, I looked to a mentor, an artist I admired. She was Susan Sidden Boulet, famous for her Goddess paintings. So, I read everything I could find about her work. Next I played with her techniques of gouache, an opaque watercolor, with details in oil pastels, and textures like spattering and layering. Also, more than techniques, I shifted my focus on my life in the moment. Plus, Shaman journeys with power animals were a major part of my life then.

I made Art a habit. Even if you can only afford a short amount of time each day, it makes a difference. Eventually, it took about a year of practice, but so worth it. It becomes Practical Magic!

Next, Art Transformation changes your life when you put your art into the world. I entered art fairs, developed a following, and my business sustained itself. In addition, my art sold in a number of galleries in the Chicago area and nationally.

Furthermore, every art work led to the next painting. Art is a cumulative skill developed over time. Work gets stronger, more confident in the doing of each piece. The mixed media was a fun way to work. Unintentional images would appear like a winged horse, dragon, or Buddha. People were always discovering secret treasures hidden in the art.

Most of all, I loved living this life. Finding the animal that called to me, learning their story, creating the art, kept me moving forward in a true Creative Life. I was transformed, bit by bit. Meeting gallery owners, knowing my buyers, and taking commissions made me grow in every way possible.
