Connecticut Ghost Stories Today.

Massachusetts has its Salem, and the Gray Champion of Kings St in Boston, but we in western Ct have the Spirits, too! Many have told us the story of the intersection of Dorwin Hill and Rt 67, where a huge barn stood that held dances during the 1940’s, bringing people from miles around. The remnants were still there when we moved here in 2002. Old car headlights can sometimes be seen lined up along the road, with young women walking together towards the music.

St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Manchester hosts a young, running, laughing woman in a long gown and hat, that will stop and watch you until you leave. If you’re lucky, St Peters Masonic Lodge in New Milford will host one of its “Paranormal Lectures on the Secret Life of Ghosts”. The original owners of the Gaylordsville Market seem to open all the freezer doors and float mail from the connected post office regularly. And of course, our own haunted Coffee Shop in town, where spirits are seen and heard often.

People tell of the houses across the street from the New Milford Hospital where footsteps are heard upstairs, radios & tv’s go on and off at 2:30 am, and doors open and close by themselves. One has a heater turning on and off, doors seemingly being held shut, and a glass of wine on the bedside table being poured all over a couple while sleeping.

But let’s not forget the herd of Ghost Cows! As related in our local recent Litchfield Magazine, Mount Pleasant Farm, north of us, has Dolly leading the way, with Brandy and Buckwheat following behind. Others come by 2’s & 3’s, with Delphie coming last and closing the gate! They have appeared in photos taken on the site, and their stories are legendary, since cows haven’t been there for a few generations.

Quite an interesting place to live for sure!
