Entering Our Stillpoint

StillPoint, Our Center, Our Source, Re-membering Ourselves

Entering Our Stillpoint, is living from our Center, our Core, in mindfulness and balance. We connect on a deeper level with our original Source of Light, energy, intuition, and love that we brought with us at birth. There are practices to bring us back to ourselves.

I remember a dance/movement teacher from Columbia College. She had a famous career as a dancer on Broadway. This was a ‘move your body’ class dealing with learning ‘all the arts’. The basic premise was to use your Core, and move mindfully with purpose in the body, not the mind.

First, I imagined my core in my solar plexus, my center. No one had ever talked about this before in my learning experience. It put me in touch my body in a different way. I became aware of what movements felt stiff or awkward. My body seemed trained to not be loose and flowing in the same way as this woman moved.

Next, I had to work out my inhibitions of being in control at all time. That was the way of the world. That is the ‘thinking’ brain, the know it all who is really afraid to let loose and take a risk, afraid of making a mistake. In this class, I entered the way of the body as a part of Nature, flow, and sensuality. Also, this was trusting the body to move naturally. It took me way out of my comfort zone, and that was such a good thing.

Plus, the body carries internal scars as well as external with any wound, and so does the mind. A deep, primal memory exists within us, that kept humans surviving and thriving from generation to generation.

In addition, that’s quite a lot to overcome when you want to relax and trust the body enough to connect with your inner core. When you’re in the body fully, it feels great, the body just knows what to do, whether exercising, creating, cooking, cleaning, eating, driving, or just living life in an easy flow. Painting opens doors for me to trust my body memory.

Furthermore, one way to try to turn off the monkey mind is to keep it busy with a simple task. Just allow body to take over. In the class, we improvised our body/arms/hands as our feet proceeded in writing out our name as though in the sand. The focus is placed on the doing of the act, which moves the body in beautiful ways.

Entering our Stillpoint is trusting the body, and touching our feelings.

Above all, connecting with our core, is living with a deep knowing of the right thing to do. Try this in all you do. Pay attention to your breath. Be aware of how it knows just what you need without thinking. Your body reacts like this to all you do.

Ask yourself how you feel about any situation. Your body gives signs throughout the day if you’d pause to listen, and feel. If a thing, situation feels good, go for it to create more of that good flow. But, if the hair stands up on your neck or you get gooseflesh when entering any experience, back off immediately. Your body knows what’s good for it. Listen and act upon it.

As a result, this is living from your Stillpoint, your center of inner wisdom. It will always serve you well. Seek the sensations of well-being in all you do. These ‘feelings’ have no name. So don’t give any verbal words to how you ‘think’ you should feel. Just experience the feelings, deep inside your core, and try living with mindfulness in all you do. Let this be the new year of Being in Balance, Feeling Centered, and Trusting Intuition. Let personal knowing be your guide on the new adventures of life.

Entering our stillpoint is a way of life. So stop thinking, and switch to doing, feeling, and trusting. You do have all the answers…really! How do you connect with your core? What practices bring you back to yourself?

Watch the way my body takes over when making a painting.
