Painting made Without Sketching First!!

Art for Everybody just Won’t Work

Who’s my tribe? In creating any online classes, or information, one must narrow down their audience….all the ‘experts’ say! It must be focused, for a particular type of person or group like ex-teachers or young people, at a certain place in their life like retired or yearning for something creative to balance all the logical/linguistics of life. It must be something people want, and need. Plus, it must be something I’m passionate about! Makes sense!

Here’s the thing, when I majored in Art Education back at U of I, we were required to learn a little bit about everything! Painting, drawing, ceramics, hand-building, wheel throwing, printmaking, fiber arts, sculpture, jewelry, which is why they really, really did NOT want any of us to have a Minor. To get my English Minor meant summer school sessions at Circle Campus.

Knowing the basics of EVERYTHING really served me well over my 22 yr Art/English teaching career. I have taught everything except Photography! But it all changes in the internet age. Now I need a Niche, a focus, a tribe. What’s a perfect example? Left handed women golfers! Really narrows it down! My eyes glaze over right about now. So I thought I’d put it out there to you all. Any thoughts about who my ‘tribe’ may be would be appreciated!

By the way, my online painting class of faces & figures is scary fun!! Take your brushes, load up with paint, and while looking at a photo, just Paint, just Do It, without sketching anything in place first! Unheard of! My first experience just doing that is above, and I loved the process!! Wait until you see what we do next with this painting!! Moving right along.

An Art Practice is like a Flowing River

In Memory of Pat Gullett, April 29, 2024

It is with great sorrow and difficulty that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Pat on Monday, April 29, 2024. She was at home and passed peacefully while asleep. Words cannot describe how much we will miss her love of life, love of her family, creativity, kindness and the spiritual impact she made…
