Oh the Joys of FB

FB has me going in Circles!

Some past students of mine wanted to ‘friend’ me on FB. Great with me. I like them and I’d like to connect. How to do that??? ‘They’ don’t make it easy! First of all, I had to track down messages to me that my students said they had sent. Digging deep, I finally found the ‘other’ message file!!! How many of us check the ‘other’? It’s loaded with stuff. In reality, most of it was smarmy spam that I’m glad I never had to see. But a few were legit, good, from nice people. How to Friend them? More hunting told me that if I truly know and like some of these people, I could REPLY to them or send their message to the Inbox. That should do it.

Then I wondered how can I stay connected to the wonderful group of people I had met online in my latest painting class? They certainly couldn’t join my regular FB page. They, too, would be sent to the ‘other’ world of messaging. I had to relabel myself in some way that my painting friends could relate to and LIKE. I decided the easiest way would be to call my Art of Pat Gullett Designs page my all encompassing Art page. All the latest, whatever I’m doing now, whether it’s painting figures, landscapes, animals, making silver jewelry with stones or bronze objects, or offering new online classes, would all be found here.

Some people say it’s best to Focus, develop one talent, and you can be a Master in 15 yrs. But I say diversify! Each thing I do takes a different discipline. The morning is my idea time. I’m best at creating my new online Wabi Sabi classes and gathering inspiration for the next piece of art. It’s also the best time to write these posts. As the day goes on, I’m preparing the next painting, experimenting with mixed media for the classes, photographing my work, or making/polishing jewelry. All hands on stuff: some of it  precision work while others are more expressive ‘let’s see what happens’ play (the best kind). I like both. It all winds down at about 4, when dinner prep, feed the birds, yoga, and either weights or treadmill get their due.

FB took up far too much time today. But I learned about the ‘other’, connected with some good people, and most importantly, realized not to read FB until my play time is done!
