What you think isn’t always the reality of life!
I live in a rivertown, nestled in the Southern Berkshires of western Ct. Some places here look like Colorado, others like Flagstaff, Az, and still others like the fingerlakes of the north. This area has rushing rapids, huge waterfalls, and many colored rock faces carved in sheer stone mountains by melting ancient ice floes. This land is ancient, with a wild beauty all its own.
Today it carried the heavy scent of deep woods, with a bit of mist hanging on each branch. The apple trees are covered in blossoms, far later than the cherry blossoms a little bit south of us. The promise of a huge apple harvest is good news for the deer, among other creatures.
The hills are magic. There’s a painting I’ll be doing next about these incredible rolling hills, layered with stretches of land flowing beneath, and an occasional glint of a spring catching the eye. Every winding road is declared a scenic view, with miles of woods, stone walls, red barns, and a llama farm, or shaggy Scottish Highland cattle ranch appearing around the next bend.
As it turns out, I’m glad I stayed in the neighborhood. That long drive to the ‘shore’ may have been beautiful, depending on the traffic, but our beautiful 78 degree calm sunny day wasn’t happening on the beach! Down there some harsh winds rose up keeping the coastline cold and damp. Warm jackets would have been needed for any wind-blown sandy strolls that day. So don’t ‘think’ too hard about where to find beauty. What you think isn’t always the reality of life. Go with what is right before your very eyes, seek the beauty you may have overlooked, and be grateful for all of it.
