We Are Nomads

We all are world travelers, come from somewhere else.

Some stories are more recent than others, but in America, no one really started ‘here’. I heard an Irish woman say that it is so interesting to hear Americans tell the adventures of their ancestors who ended up ‘here’. Her family has lived in Ireland for thousands of years. Her parents could possibly trace their generations back to the same mountain. But for the rest of us, intermingling, moving, pulling up roots, has been a way of life. We each hold a long history of our nomad lineage, who all ended up ‘here’.

I think that memory is held deep within our DNA. It’s the lure to explore, to find the sea, the mountains, the canyons. I can almost hear the deep group sigh of people, all sharing a long stretch of beach, as toes are dug into the sand, as sounds of waves lull us into peace, as the salty scent of ocean permeates our bodies. Distant places are almost like coming home. The farther we can see on the horizon, the deeper we breathe, the calmer we become. Going to the ends of the world is a healing at the deepest levels. Whoever can heed the call to the Great Adventure, discovers a place within, beyond words. It’s a feeling of awe and letting go of the made up world, with a return to nature, the source, the womb.
