Just Pretend!
Lately I’ve read some funny ways to get through the Holiday Family Get Together! One said they pretend they are an anthropologist investigating an alien culture. Another said they acted like a Director writing up the yearly report of a mental asylum.
All life is about experience. What a great, unusual, filled with possibilities moment to experience. We are never like our families, children so different than parents, extended eccentric family members rarely seen. I think that happens so we find ourselves! We learn what we are, by seeing what we are not. Yet these are people you have known all your life. They know your long lost Nickname, for God’s sake! What an opportunity! If you find any anxiety there, switch it to curiosity.
This time, when your hear the ‘Johnny Boy’, ‘Patsy’, ‘Butchy’, ‘Sliver’, ‘Bones’, ‘Waynerd’ come tumbling out in cringe-worthy fashion, this Year, pretend you are a famous Hollywood writer of stand-up comedy. Be George Carlin gathering a rich notebook of material for the latest standing room only crowd! Be the Writer of a much anticipated novel, observe, interview, throw in some personnel thoughts and see where it all goes. It will be memorable for sure. And possibly one of the best memories to look back on over the years. Steve Martin can star in the movie version. Cherish these unique, one of a kind connections and put a funny spin on it all without getting pulled in. Be the Observer in yet another Play of Life. It will change everything.
